You are invited to participate in the workshop "EU Research and Innovation in Support to the Earth observation Market", organised by the Directorate Climate Action and Resource Efficiency of European Commission's DG Research and Innovation (DG RTD), in Brussels, on Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 September 2016.

DG RTD is organising this workshop in collaboration with DG CONNECT, DG GROW, the JRC, EARSC, ESA (ESRIN), Geospatial Media and Communications BV, and HCP international.

The overall objective of this workshop will be to explore Research and Innovation (R&I) actions needed for the development of a dynamic Earth observation (EO) market in Europe in relation to the Copernicus and GEO initiatives (Group on Earth Observations). European commercial entities involved or interested in Earth observation are particularly welcome and encouraged to participate.

The three main themes of the workshop will be the following:

To characterise the current EO market in Europe and globally and its future trends (new EO services and products);
To identify R&I actions in support to the delivery of new EO services and products g. within Copernicus and GEO (Group on Earth Observations), and definition of appropriate measures to accelerate their uptake by industry;
To elaborate a mechanism for consulting/involving the European commercial sector towards GEO and Copernicus taking into account the dialogue already initiated between the two programmes.

This workshop builds on a series of events on EO related business held in Europe since 2014, including:

the 1st DG RTD workshop on "Engaging the Private Sector in GEO – A European Perspective", Brussels, 26 September 2014;
the Copernicus value chain workshop, Brussels, 26-27 April 2016;
the European Geospatial Business Summit, Rotterdam, 23-26 May 2016

The workshop will be a unique moment for companies attending to:

Take advantage of opportunities for networking,
Develop new business opportunities,
Promote their capabilities to others,
Learn about R&D and state of the art.
