AquaTT is a partner in this LEONARDO pilot project led by I.P.S.I.A. 'Dino Ugo di Marzio', Pescara, Italy, in conjunction with Profi Forma in Portugal.

The central objective is to develop teaching materials on aquaculture for use in Italian secondary schools (lycees) with students aged 15-20 years old.

AquaTT is specifically responsible for the completion of a 9-chapter manual on aquaculture , and has commissioned writers to complete the following chapters:

  • Introduction to Aquaculture
  • Fish Biology
  • Farming Rainbow Trout
  • Farming Sea Bass and Sea Bream
  • Eels and Eel Farming
  • Biology of Bivalve Molluscs
  • Farming Clams and Clam Fisheries
  • Farming Mussels
  • Producing Live Food; Micro-algae, rotifers, artemia
  • Bivalve Molluscs: Quality, purification and public health
  • Simple Husbandry Projects for Students

The students will be studying aquaculture as a subject along with normal academic subjects (e.g. Italian, English, Mathematics, Science etc.). This course to be offered by IPSIA Dino Ugo di Marzio will be the first technical level aquaculture course in Italy and will be delivered by non-specialist teachers.

The project finished in April 2001.
