AquaLabs

History of Aqualabs

The Aqualabs proposal was a direct follow on from issues highlighted and developed by the AquaTT led AQUA-TNET thematic monitoring network for aquaculture tertiary education. The Aqualabs were the culmination of years of cooperation between academic institutions in Europe at the forefront of research within their respective fields. In this respect European Added Value has been built into the courses from their initiation, as they have been designed to take into account the differing needs of more than one European Institution.

Aqualabs Events

Once the needs had been established they were developed by AquaTT and partners into a working forumla known as Aqualabs, which received its initial funding under the European Commission's Human Potential Potential Programme (High Level Scientific Courses) of the fifth framework. The four Aqualabs events combined represented a pioneering and innovative approach to the teaching of advanced level aquaculture. They provided state-of-the-art advanced training for your researchers in four specific areas of Aquaculture;
(i) Quality in Fish Products
(ii) Biology of Fish Larvae Production
(iii) Molecular Biology & Ecology in Aquaculture
(iv) Design & Operation of Recirculation Systems.

The courses varied between 5 and 7 days and brought together a total of 114 participants for training by 36 leading scientists.

The project ended in 2001.
