Assessment of Women Achievers in Aquaculture Workshop Platform


The "Assessment of Women Achievers in Aquaculture Workshop" took place between 7th-8th October 2004 through the partnership of AquaTT, Aqualex Multimedia Consortium, the Association of Scottish Shellfish Growers (ASSG) and CETMAR, and with the financial support of the Directorate-General FISHERIES of the European Commission.  The workshop programme was as follows:

Site Visit 
Dominique Richiero et Jacques Baron,  Marais de l'Isle, near La Tremblade. 
Dominique will give a guided tour of the area's vast oyster industry, explaining about developments and the changing role of women.  The tour will conclude with a degustation (tasting) of her oysters and local wine.  

13.00 Lunch at Chez Gaby, La Temblade

14.30 Second Site Visit
Hélène Bodin, Les Salines de Brouage, Route de Beaugeay
Hélène and her husband have an oyster hatchery and salt works, and Hélène has recently opened a small shop and café to sell and demonstrate the products.

17.00 Return to Rochefort
 


WORKING GROUP TEMPLATES & SUMMARY DOCUMENT

Groups 1 to 3 inclusive used the following Horizontal Theme Template to carry out a Comparative Analysis of the common skills needed and demonstrated in their own lives to date, and in that of the women show-cased in the success story presentations in Session II.  Group 4 focused more generally on the role women take in mentoring, associations and networking and specifically their results can be seen by clicking on the Networking Theme Template.  This group exercise served to focus the type of expertise required in terms of leadership, negotiation, decision-making, communication and addressed the important issue of attaining work-life balance.  The exercise served to bring to conclusion the challenges and needs within the sector and to pose potential solutions and methods of redress.  This is tabled in the Workshop Summary Document
