Project Officer Position – September 2011

AquaTT is a not-for-profit organisation and specialist in marine-related scientific knowledge management and transfer activities. For more than 19 years we have been a key partner in EU-financed projects.
More recently AquaTT has been extremely successful in securing significant grants from the European Commission 7th Framework Programme to implement important strategic RTD projects. AquaTT currently participates in 12 FP7 projects with 218 institutions from 37 countries. The total value of the EC investment in the FP projects in which we participate is > €38M.

AquaTT is currently looking for a dynamic individual to join the current team, to implement delivery of one of its new flagship projects and to help realise the full potential of the organisation.

Position: Project Officer Position carrying out scientific project management
Type: Full-Time 18m contract (Initial 6 month probation) available immediately

DESCRIPTION
This is a fixed-term position based in our Dublin city centre office. The role of the Project Assistant is to assist in project managing European Commission funded scientific research projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. The Project Officer will also oversee quality control throughout the full project life cycle. The Project Officer will be responsible for fulfilling AquaTT’s commitments on the project, typically carrying out tasks such as project management, project communication and dissemination (via a variety of media and stakeholder engagement events), financial control, maintaining partner relationships, etc.

We are looking for a well-organised, precise, pro-active, careful, diligent, dedicated person with a can-do attitude.

The Project Officer position would suit a graduate with training in a marine or life sciences domain but other science graduates with relevant competence, skills and experience should also apply. Training will be provided.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
•    EEA work authorisation
•    A minimum of a bachelors degree
•    Experience in Fisheries Science
•    Excellent level of English
•    Excellent presentation skills
•    Excellent writing skills
•    Sound working knowledge of MS Office systems
•    Task-orientated, responsible and autonomous / Good in completing tasks and delivering results
•    Strong inter-personal and communication qualities within a multi-national context, including discretion, diplomacy and tolerance
•    Commitment to deliver on allocated tasks and respond in a timely manner to deadlines
•    Good ability to work in a team and in multicultural environments
•    Ability to demonstrate initiative
•    Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial
•    Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new information.
•    Reacts to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.

DESIRED SKILLS BUT NOT ESSENTIAL
•    Working knowledge of another European language being an advantage, but not a requirement
•    Further 3rd level qualifications
•    Project management experience
•    Event management experience
•    Experience in information management and communication through electronic platforms
•    Flexible during times of change

WORK CONDITIONS
•    Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
•    Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.
•    Some travel may be required for the purpose of meeting with partners, stakeholders, etc.

SALARY SCALE:
€25,000 – 32,000 per annum (depending on experience and qualifications) + performance related bonus scheme
