HEALTHY FUTURES

[Duration: January 2011 – December 2014 (48 months)]

HEALTHY FUTURES is a collaborative inter-disciplinary research project comprised of 15 partners based in Africa and Europe. It aims to respond to the impact environmental change will have on three water-related vector-borne diseases (malaria, Rift Valley fever & schistosomiasis) in eastern Africa by constructing disease mapping systems, taking into account environmental/climatic trends and changes in socio-economic conditions, to predict future risk. Although the immediate geographic focus of the HEALTHY FUTURES project is eastern Africa, the approach adopted in and the findings of the research are expected to have applications outside the study area.

AQUAMED

[Duration: June 2010 – June 2013 (36 Months)]

AQUAMED, the future of research on aquaculture in the Mediterranean region, will promote innovative Mediterranean research and focus on the most relevant issues needed to sustain aquaculture in the region.

AQUAMED will strengthen the EU-Mediterranean partnership in developing common projects, and in planning for the challenges Mediterranean aquaculture faces, now and into the future.

COEXIST

[Duration: April 2010 – April 2013 (36 Months)]

Coastal areas are subject to an increase in competing activities and protection and are a source of potential conflict for space allocation.

COEXIST is a broad, multidisciplinary approach to evaluate these interactions with the ultimate goal to provide a roadmap to better integration, sustainability and synergies among different activities in the coastal zone.

If you would like to know more about this project, please either click on Coexist or go to the official Coexist website: www.coexistproject.eu

MarineTT

[Duration: February 2010 – February 2012 (24 Months)]

MarineTT is premised on the concept that knowledge is a major source of competitive advantage in business. Much potentially valuable knowledge, locked into inaccessible or non-user-friendly contexts, is unused because key stakeholders are not aware of its existence. MarineTT is primarily concerned with marine environmental research, but the approach used will facilitate coverage of other themes (climate change, biodiversity, earth observation, and urban development) and important sub-topics (such as fisheries and aquaculture) to be included, given their relevance to the key area of the impacts of economic growth leading to environmental degradation, and the current ecosystem management approach supported by the EC.

EU Lifelong Learning Programme

Aqua-RET 2

[Duration: October 2009 – October 2011 (24 Months)]

Aqua-RET 2 builds upon the Aqua-RET (Aquatic Renewable Energy Tecnologies) project which developed online training materials to improve end-user’s understanding of marine renewable energy technologies (Run of River, Tidal Impoundment, Tidal Stream, Wave and Offshore Wind).  Aqua-RET 2 will use the existing Aqua-RET resources, and match them to the needs of the market by carrying out a needs analysis of the sector and piloting customised training courses.

Aqua-tnet

[Duration: October 2008 – October 2011 (36 Months)]

Aqua-tnet is a multidisciplinary thematic network that unites the academic and vocational aspects of the Bologna reforms and the establishment of the European Higher Education Area in the field of aquaculture, fisheries and aquatic resources management. Aqua-tnet is growing in activity and relevance and with the approved Community co-funding  for the new phase (2008-2011) we now have an excellent opportunity to build upon the first phase and continue this long running network (1996-2008).

VALLA

[Duration: February 2008 – February 2010 (24 Months)]

VALLA (Validation of All Lifelong Learning in Aquaculture) will develop and pilot methods of recognising and accrediting lifelong learning in the aquaculture sector via the European Qualifications Framework. VALLA builds on the results of WAVE and will contribute towards the aims of the EQF by developing competence-based learning outcomes for a specific sector, providing a reference for the validation of non-formallly acquired competences, and linking such reference points to establish sectoral standards.

If you would like to know more about this project, either please on VALLA or go to the official VALLA website: www.vallaproject.com
